Task I: Poem (Hemidemisemiquaver)

Hemidemisemiquaver is the Strange Music I just learnt

To musicians it might not be new

But to me, it still sounds strange and I have to antagonize my tongue to make sure that I pronounce it right

So perhaps they should try to make it sound to me like the sixty-fourth note they say it is.

Though its adoption seems out of place to the baby boomers, the millennial generation have made it sound drama free

I am loving it for the joy it gives me when I ask friends to pronounce it

How some of them miss more than two syllables is amazing

More amazing is even how they fail to pronounce the word out aloud and instead opt to read it in silence then look at me like I just gave them an evil task to handle

But despite the joy it gives me, Hemidemisemiquaver is still strange music to me!

Task II (Lessons)

Reading is an informative exercise. Golick (1986) stated that it leaves an individual better that it found him. This is what has been referred to as intellectual growth. Ideally, reading is an adventurous process because it should not only inform, but also entertain. It is for this reason that I enjoyed the task; the reading improved my understanding of the ‘internet famous words’ and how to appreciate them and use them in a context that befits intellectual and academic excellence. Reading about the word hemidemisemiquaver was particularly interesting and served to satisfy my quest for new information. Ideally, the significance of the reading lesson is illustrated in the achievement that was realized after the reading; this word served both as a vocabulary as the podium for creating a poem.

Other than reading, there was the process that involved writing. This is a process that requires the integration of acquired knowledge and creativity. McCracken and McCracken (1995) described writing as a test and gauge against which readers can determine the depth of their understanding of the conceived facts and precepts. Writing a poem that based on the precepts exhibited in Glenn Freeman’s poem while at the same time ensuring that originality and creativity remain the definitive features of the poem was a challenge. To ensure that the written poem was just as interesting as Freeman’s and even more informative, more reading/research had to be done. Besides, to ensure that there was a consistent flow in the lines of the poem, there was the necessity of creating events that would be in succession of each other. These projections highlight the complexities that defined the writing process. However, it is a process that I did relish as, just like reading, it left me a better critic than I had been (McCracken & McCracken, 1995).

It is also important to note that the writing process helped with the reproduction and communication of my thoughts about the internet word and its impact on the society. For instance, the factors that have been communicated in the poem are inclusive of the humor that has resulted from the interaction with the word and its use with and amongst friends and peers. Besides, the actual and normal contexts in which the word should be used have also been communicated. These are indications of that writing helps with the exploration of ideas and the communication of those ideas to the public. This is a factor that points to the dynamism of language. According to Golick (1986), language is dynamic and is, therefore, subject to change especially amongst generations.

The last lesson that was gathered from the task was based on the definitive precepts that guide the use of language in a population. For instance, while the research proved that the word is increasingly becoming popular with the millennial generation, the baby boomers, on the other hand, believe on its actual and original contexts as a musical term. That explains why, as described in the poem, whenever they were tasked with reading and pronouncing the word, they freaked and considered the task too complicated.

Other than that, language has since proven to be poetic and based on the precepts of fulfilling man’s quest for entertainment (McCracken & McCracken, 1995). This is a projection based on the perception that the writing of the poem was a fulfilling task. Ideally, how so much imagination resulted from the use of a single word is a baffling factor. It is notable that to create a poem that revolves around a single word, there was the importance of using the wordings of the English language coupled with the Internet words. This points to the significance of language as an entertainment medium. Besides, other than the entertainment that was experienced during the creation of the poem, there is the entertainment that will most likely result from reading the poem and relating its underlying projections to actual occurrences (Golick, 1986).
